A Little Town At Midnight, adapted from "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" (Lewis Redner & Phillips Brooks) and "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear" (Richard Storrs Willis & Edmund Sears) 7.09
Jessica Martin and Mark Steyn, vocals
with orchestra arranged and conducted by Kevin Amos
Mark has always loved the American carols "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear", written within a few years of each other in the mid-19th century, and he thought it would be fun to combine them in one intimate vignette of that first Christmas Eve 2,000 years ago. Mark handles most of "O Little Town" and Jessica most of "Midnight Clear", and Kevin Amos has created a beautiful chamber orchestration with instrumental allusions to "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel", "Silent Night", "Angels From The Realms Of Glory", "Away In A Manger" and "Once In Royal David's Story". The result is a unique musical telling of the Christmas story.
"A Little Town At Midnight" is also available in old-fashioned CD form on the brand new album Making Spirits Bright.
