The Mark Steyn Christmas Show (double CD)
with Mark and his special guests
Here's three hours of great listening to while away winter hours by the firelight's glow. We've put together Mark and Jessica's full-length Christmas album Making Spirits Bright with a double dose of Yuletide cheer - The Mark Steyn Christmas Show, an audio extravaganza featuring two hours of great conversation and live music. It's like eggnog for your ears - and at one low price!
Making Spirits Bright features almost an hour of great music from Mark and his Sweet Gingerbread Girl Jessica Martin. The twelve tracks embrace songs from the 19th to the 21st century, by a wide range of writers from Johnny Mercer and Frank Loesser to Mariah Carey and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and in an eclectic range of styles from a full disco megamix of "A Marshmallow World" to the beautiful chamber orchestration of "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear". In between come breezy, swinging songs of Yuletide cheer: "All I Want For Christmas Is You", in which Steyn hits a new high, so to speak; a wild sleigh ride through "Jingle Bells"; the tale of "The Christmas Glow Worm"; plus the jazzy "Snowbound", the wistful "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" and many more.
Then settle in for The Mark Steyn Christmas Show, a two-CD set of live music and great conversation with Mark and his special guests. The composer Hugh Martin performs his great seasonal standard, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". Mark bakes pies for America's homemaker Martha Stewart and talks Christmas comedy with Cheers veteran Rob Long. Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of the Baron and Sister Maria, fills us in on what the family's been up to since the final scene of The Sound Of Music. Don Black, lyricist of "Born Free" and "To Sir With Love", and Tim Rice, lyricist of Evita and The Lion King, discuss British Christmas songs with Mark. The star of the Oscar-winning Barbarian Invasions Dorothée Berryman gives us a French-language "White Christmas", and teams up with Mark and Quebec's Monique Fauteux for a bilingual "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer". There's lots more music, including "Edelweiss", "Snowfall", "Angels From The Realms Of Glory", "Moonlight In Vermont", the Huron Carol, and an all-star "Jingle Belles" medley from Jessica Martin.
"A Marshmallow World", "Runnin' On Eggnog", "Sweet Gingerbread Man", and Martha Stewart tasting Mark's cranberry pie all on one yummy bill of fare - and we'll throw in a special SteynOnline greeting card personally signed by Mark to you or your loved one!
